What is Monitoring Timer?
Monitoring Timer provides lone and remote workers with comprehensive protection and peace of mind in low or zero signal areas.
How does the Monitoring Timer feature work?
![]() |
Before entering an area with poor signal, first, you should leave a Check-In message to explain where you are and the risks you might face. |
![]() |
You can then set the Monitoring Timer for the length of time you expect to be in that low-signal location. |
![]() |
When you’re back in range of a signal, you should manually cancel the timer before it expires (or you can increase or decrease the timer as necessary). |
![]() |
If the timer expires without being cancelled, operators in our Alarm Receiving Centre are alerted. |

An operator will listen to any Check-In messages, and then attempt to locate your device and call you on the phone number(s) you have provided. |
![]() |
If we can confirm an incident has occurred, we will quickly verify the seriousness of the incident and notify the emergency services and/or your pre-agreed escalation contacts on your behalf. |

If we’re unable to get in touch with you, we will escalate to your escalation contacts to inform them that your Monitoring Timer has expired and they should take steps to confirm your safety. |
When should the Monitoring Timer feature be used?
Our Alarm Receiving Centre is available 24/7 so you can set your Monitoring Timer at any time of the day or night. The Monitoring Timer can be activated for a minimum of 15 minutes and up to a maximum of 8 hours.
Here are some examples of when to use the Monitoring Timer feature:
- If a utilities worker is entering an underground location with no or low signal, and they expect to be underground for 1 hour, they would set the Monitoring Timer for 60 minutes.
- A real estate agent is showing a home to buyers they have not met before in a rural location with a low signal, they expect the showing to last for 45 minutes so they would set the Monitoring Timer for 45 minutes.
- A carer living in London is leaving her last evening appointment in an unfamiliar area and will be using the underground train to get home. The journey will take 50 minutes, they would set the Monitoring Timer for 50 minutes.
- An agricultural worker from a rural location with no or low signal will be alone with dangerous machinery for 4 hours starting in the early morning, they would set the Monitoring Timer for 4 hours.
- A social housing worker will be visiting housing in a rural location and the tenants have previously shown aggression, the appointment should last for 30 minutes, they would set the Monitoring Timer for 30 minutes.

What happens if an incident occurs whilst using the Monitoring Timer?
If an incident occurs whilst the Monitoring Timer is active, you should still press the Red Alert button. Your device will then attempt to make contact with our Alarm Receiving Centre.
If enough signal can be found, a call will be opened with an operator and the Red Alert process will be followed.
Similarly, if your Incapacitation Alert feature is active and your device detects a fall, your device will attempt to make contact with our Alarm Receiving Centre.
If enough signal can be found, a call will be opened with an operator and the Incapacitation Alert process will be followed.
Why is it important to leave a Check-In message before setting the timer?
We would always recommend using the Monitoring Timer in conjunction with our Check-In feature. A Check- In message can provide valuable information about your location and activity should the timer expire. It is particularly useful to leave a Check-In message with details of your location, your activity, any perceived risks and how long you will be setting the Monitoring Timer for.
Example of a Check-In message
In this example, Tina Smith, a real estate agent has correctly left a Check-In message because they will be showing a property to buyers who they have not met before, in a rural area with low or no signal.
Tina will set the Monitoring Timer after leaving the Check-In message.
If the Monitoring Timer expires and the operator is unable to get hold of Tina, they will know information about where she was going and who she was meeting to inform the escalation process.
